Another freebie!

Honestly this show is great!! It's free, and starts at 6 and runs every half hour at the Mirage in Las Vegas. It's pretty cool. The Mirage Volcano has been redone, and the effects are terrific! You can feel the heat throughout the show and the loud banging drum music . The "lava" looks real. There is a waterfall structure out in front of the valet entrance that changes to a volcano and spits fire.

AWESOME

After nightfall it happens....The massive volcano erupts, every 15 to 20 minutes and is very spectacular as the volcano spews fiery water into the air, flames creep down into the water, lighting up the entire lagoon. A must see while in Vegas.

This island in the sun is no mirage...it's the one and only Mirage Resort and Casino and it offers a tropical paradise for Las Vegas vacationers. The sprawling resort and casino grounds offer a world of entertainment for guests seeking to escape the ordinary. Marvel at the famous Volcano eruption or take a stroll through Seigfried and Roy's enchanted wildlife habitat. For more adult pursuits, fabulous nightlife and a private topless pool await.

The newly renovated guest rooms feature ultra-chic amenities while still maintaining a comfortable, homey ambiance. When you're ready to feast, the Mirage's roster of casual to fine dining is sure to please every palate.

Summary

Features: The Volcano at the Mirage is one of the best sights on the Strip. At 54-feet-high and rigged with some of the coolest pyrotechnics, it's a must see for anyone who wants to be awed.

Why We Go: Beyond feeling the heat of flames bursting dozens of feet in the air right off the Vegas Strip, we go to see some of the best engineering in the world put together in a monstrous version of our favorite grade-school science experiment.

  • Baking Soda and Vinegar: Ok, so the Mirage Volcano is a little more complex. As in, they use a state-of-the-art computer software system to control the flames and fountains for a one-of-a-kind show, every time.
  • Keeping it Real: The music is selected and mixed with the choreography to create a spiritual experience, but beyond that, every sound of the volcano itself is from recordings of actual eruptions. Now that is true to life.

Inside Knowledge: The music in the Volcano show is composed by Grateful Dead Drummer Mickey Hart and the Indian composer Zakir Hussain, who studied legends, myths and history of volcanoes, and incorporated instruments from around the world to create the perfect accompaniment to the fire show.

Do's and Don'ts:

  • Do Catch the Late Show: Just like visiting the Bellagio Fountains, this free show will pack up at prime time. If you want a good spot, go a little later.
  • Don't Try to Jump the Volcano: Just because Robbie Knievel hopped the eruption on New Year's Eve 2008 with his motorcycle, doesn't mean you can (not that you would try).
