what happened?

what happened?5 or 6 years ago it used to be a great show. I aways brought my friends there from out of town to see it. Over the past few years, the show has stedily gone down hill. Don't bother going now...it's a waste of time.

good times!

been to vegas 4 times, have done the masquerade in the sky twice - meaning i've ridden in the floats! so as the other poster said, yes, you pay a fee (something like $20-25) and then they take you "backstage" - you meet some of the performers (everyone is really nice) and then you pick out a costume (they're like ponchos you just slip over your head)....they may give you a tambourine to shake along your route....and of course BEADS to throw out to the crowd. it's really something else!! well worth the money. (now to not get sold out!)

Free...Beads please

One of the very best FREE things to do in Las Vegas. For the first 15 minutes the dancers at the Rio give it all they have. Their performance is the equal to the many shows you pay afternoon Vegas prices to see. Along with the dancers, there are a variety of floats that swing by over the stage. We heard that you can actually pay a price to get a seat on one of the floats and be a part of the show. The performers throw out beaded necklaces during the show, always a treat for those that catch them. They run a show every half hour, but make sure to grab a good seat on the house because it's situated around the casino and plenty of by-passers seem to bump into you from left to right. Great show, even greater price.

Mardi Gras meets Vegas

My husband and I spent an entire evening at the Rio during our week-long trip to Vegas and we were particularly impressed with the Parade in the Sky. It's kind of like Mardi Gras, except the floats move along a track on the ceiling. There also are dancers and singers on a stage on the casino floor. Each show is a little bit different, but all are entertaining. I would say it's probably the best free show in Vegas.

Show in the Sky Hotel

3.2

The Rio Hotel and Casino is a 2,500 room Carnival-themed hotel with a 100,000-square-foot casino floor, 19 restaurants and several shows including Penn and Teller and Chippendales. Located just off the Strip on Flamingo Road, the Rio boasts phenominal views of the glitzy Vegas skyline. One of the hotel's main attractions is the free Mardi Gras-themed show in which gorgeous dancers throw beads to the crowd on the casino floor from rotating floats on the ceiling.

Summary

Features: Located inside the Rio Hotel and Casino, the Show in the Sky is a Mardi Gras-themed production with three different shows throughout the night featuring beautiful dancers, marvelous costumes, intricate floats gliding on the ceiling, and the signiture fat Tuesday bead throwing.

Why We Go: Never been to New Orleans during Mardi Gras? The Show in the Sky gives you chance to experience the madness outside of Bourbon Street when the performers turn the Rio's casino floor into an all out festive party.

  • Bead Throwing: Join in the fun and catch some beads to let everyone know you were at Mardi Gras. But you have to be quick because there's usually some stiff bead catching competition out there.
  • It's Free: Most Las Vegas shows cost a pretty penny, however the Show in the Sky is better then many Las Vegas shows and it's completely free. You can't beat that deal!

Inside Knowledge: The stunning costumes featured in the Show in the Sky were designed by DKNY, Victoria's Secret and Bebe.

Do's and Don'ts:

  • Do Be a Part of the Show: For $12.95, the Rio offers guests the exciting opportunity to be in a Las Vegas show and ride in the float with the dancers.
  • Don't Watch it Only Once: The Rio doesn't just have one show. There are three different themed shows changing throughout the evening including pop, latin and burlesque. It seems the later in the night it gets, the more fun and crazy the shows become.
