Mexican Fiesta of Fun at Cabo Wabo in Planet Hollywood
Customer Testimonial
"
We loved this place. Good for visitors who want to experience the Strip while eating, drinking and especially people watching. You can watch the Bellagio water show from the railing seating and the food was great, along with the service.

Cabo Wabo - Fine, but forgettable
Cabo Wabo is one of those venues on the Strip that can't decide whether it wants to be a restaurant or a bar. (In my opinion, it definitely leans toward the latter.)
I walked by this bar/restaurant/whatever probably a dozen times before my curiosity finally led me through the door. (Metaphorically, I suppose - I chose to sit outside rather than the all-but-empty indoor dining room.)
The patio, which faces the Vegas Strip and provides guests with some pretty decent views of the Bellagio across the street, is generally pretty crowded. I sat at the bar and after a couple of beats, was finally able to get the bartender's attention. I ordered a Margarita - after all, it was the Cabo Wabo and if I ordered anything else, Sammy Hagar would've rolled over in his grave. (Wait, he's still alive? Sorry, Red!) The Marg was decent, but if you're going to charge $12 for a cocktail in a plastic cup, it better blow me away. Unfortunately, it didn't.
Nor did the atmosphere. I didn't get the sense that the Cabo Wabo had an identity, and in Vegas everything needs to have a theme. I walked away from the Cabo Wabo trying to decide if this was a bar that catered to the slightly older crowds (a la Margaritaville) or the 20- and early-30 somethings (see: Diablo's Cantina). In the end, Cabo Wabo lands somewhere in the middle - meaning it appeals to really everyone - and no one - all at once.
Basically, my trip to Cabo Wabo was uneventful and essentially forgetful. I wouldn't seek out this Vegas Strip bar unless you walk by and see an open seat facing the Bellagio fountains; now that's something to remember.
