Riviera Hotel Las Vegas Summary

Features: The Riviera Hotel and Casino is located towards the northern side of the Las Vegas Strip, just past the Wynn and the Encore. Known by locals as "The Riv", this hotel and casino has a lot of history. It was one of the first hotels to be built during Vegas' boom in the 1950's. Rooted in the tradition of offering guests quality entertainment and accommodations, it has remained a popular Las Vegas hotel.

Why We Stay:

  • Old Vegas: The Riviera is one of the few old Vegas properties left on the Strip, but it has been updated with modern amenities to make it comfortable and historic.
  • Crazy Girls: As longest-running cabaret performance with showgirls in Las Vegas, this topless-revue is still one of the most notorious and best.

Inside Knowledge: The Riviera has a relatively long and storied history including a stint in the 60's and 70's as a renowned mobster-owned hotel. Several very popular films about Vegas were shot here such as "3000 Miles to Graceland", the original "Ocean's 11" and Martin Scorsese's "Casino."

Do's and Don'ts:

  • Do Go to the Comedy Club: There's never a dull moment inside the Riviera Comedy Club, where some of the best comedians perform their acts, keeping audiences rolling in the aisles.
  • Don't Expect a Strip Hotel: Like we said The Riv is a part of old Vegas, and is not going to offer all of the same attractions that the newer hotels on the Strip do. Also, it is a pretty long walk from its location on the north end of the Strip to the middle of the Strip, so be prepared to take a cab.

Riviera Las Vegas - Stay at own risk

I started staying at this hotel in 1992 when I came for my first National's pool tournament and have stayed here at least 15 times. My husband and I were coming to visit our daughter and grandkids; we stayed at the M Resort for the first two nights and wanted to stay one night on the strip so he could play cards at slots of fun. We haven't stayed here in a couple of years so I didn't use my player’s card to book the room. Went online and the rate was $34.00, I later received a schedule with the rate for this night at $25.00. When we checked in the hotel I ask the person at the front desk if they would give us this rate and was told NO, not I can't do that or let me check (just a flat and not very nice NO) I had misplaced my players card and went to get another one and the person at the players desk was all friendly and chatty with the man in front of me and when it was my turn her whole mood changed. I ask about some points that I was told would still be on my card and was told that they would be added back after a full days play. When we checked out I was charged a $7.95 or something like that resort charge. I told them I was not told about the charge and they just said it was on the information when I booked the room (this charge was never on my total when I booked the room). If you’re going to charge a resort charge it should be included in the total amount of your charge when you book. They would not take this charge off my bill; it is not listed as a resort it is listed as the Riviera Hotel and Casino. The worst part of this whole trip was that my husband got bit by something there and his hand swelled up three times the size of his other hand, he didn't tell me until we were at the airport and by the next morning when we were home he couldn't make a fist. He went to his doctor and was sent to an Infectious Disease doctor because the infection was going up his arm. They gave him an IV antibiotic and he has to go everyday for ten days to receive IV therapy for the bite. This use to be a good place to stay with good customer servie but now has just turned into a dump we never want to visit again. SPEND A LITTLE MORE MONEY FOR YOUR SAFETY AND STAY AT ONE OF THE NEWER HOTLES

Unsafe Dangerous Beware

Unsafe Dangerous BewareI had an absolutely abhorring experience here, this "hotel" is scary dangerous and unsafe! I was continually harassed catcalled with degrading remarks BY HOTEL EMPLOYEES! I filed a report with "security" who was untrustworthy and physically pushed me around. Please be safe and don't stay here! Some of my belongings are still missing and they will not help me to recover them. I have not been refunded for the unused portion of my stay and surprise surprise they're being completely uncooperative. STAY AWAY!!

First time experience

First time experienceOur first trip to Las Vegas and was booked in at the riviera. The check in was long and we had a hard time finding the registration desk upon arrival. The room was nice, clean. We had a nice time in the casino and didn't take long to find our way around. Now that we know some things we would probably not stay at the riviera again mainly because we would like to see if we would have a better experience at another hotel/casino in the future.

a good value for a strip "resort" hotel

a good value for a strip "resort" hotelThis is a good "value" resort. it's old but big and well kept.it has plenty of shows, plenty of decent restaurants from a fast food court to higher-end places.the casino is uncrowded. it is currently isolated on the northern fringe of the strip so you wanderers need a car or enjoy walking or using the bus.at least the property is not set back from l.v.blvd. so you are only a few steps from the sidewalk.a plus for Catholics is a short walk to the cathedral.

Not bad, but not great either

Not bad, but not great eitherThis hotel was built in 1955 and it doesn't look like they have done any updates since then, the rooms are not that great and are in need of a big face lift, the staff was kinda rude also, which didn't go over well with my wife at all. The casino was nothing to talk about and the food was just average. If your looking for a romantic get-a-way, this isn't the place for it, noisy also, needless to say we won't be going back to the Riv anytime soon.

Rivera Stay

We stayed at the Rivera for 5 nights in May and overall, I'd say our stay at this hotel was just a little better than OK. The room was clean but dimly lit.  The shower stall had a little mildew in the corners.  The bed was comfortable.  The window valance had water marks.  Food in the buffet was good.  $35 will get you food all day.  Plenty of cabs to get you where you like.  Costs about $22 to take a cab to Freemont Street.  Local bus, the Duece costs $7 for 24 hours but is very slow and some times very crowded.  The airport is very close to this hotel  The concierge offers a 6 hour bus tour of Hoover Dam, Ethel M's candy factory and a cactus garden.  Actually an excellent tour.

The Riviera Hotel & Casino

After reading several reviews of The Riviera Hotel & Casino, my husband and I were a bit nervous.  We have been to Vegas 5 or 6 times and stayed at several different hotels.  We arrived at 10am and when we tried to check in we were told that check-in was at 4 but they would be able to accommodate us with a room at noon.  This worked out well because we were both starving so we grabbed a bite to eat and a cocktail and before we knew it, our room was ready. We were given a non-smoking room that was recently remodeled. It was quiet and comfortable and worked out well for the little time that we spent in it.

The casino at The Riviera is pretty small compared to the other hotels that we have been to.  (We are slot players and were surprised at how little they had) It turned out good because we both were on a winning streak and for the first time, we brought home more money than what we went with.

I do recommend this hotel for a budget traveler that isn't too concerned with all the glam and glitz of Vegas.

Riviera Hotel boys Trip

Stayed at the Riviera in Feb as part of a guys trip with a bunch of my old college buddies.

The rooms were clean, but pretty beat. We basically just slept for a few hours each night, so weren't expecting much. The pool was not crowded and just average, but the towel service was free. The casino had $5 minimums on most games.  The waitresses were on their game, quick drinks. The dealers were very professional.
I am grading this hotel for what it was...a low budget hotel, for that it gets 3.5 stars...not a dump, but clearly not the Wynn.

Scarlett and Her Seductive Ladies of Magic are taking the Riviera Hotel and Casino by storm with Scarlett's sensual brand of magic with the help of topless assistants. In a town where males dominate the magic scene, Scarlett's skills and charm are magical. The illusions performed will amaze you, especially the climatic final trick which involved Scarlett shackled and dunked in ice water.

Riviera Hotel Las Vegas Restaurants

Kristopher's in the Riviera Hotel and Casino is a classy "Old Vegas" style steakhouse serving up choice cuts of aged beef without the exorbitant prices of most other Las Vegas steak joints.

We love that Kristopher's menu focuses on doing the basics right; the steaks and lobster recipes have been honed to perfection during the steakhouse's long history. Classic steakhouse desserts like cheesecake offer the perfect conclusion to a classy meal.

Kady's Coffee Shop is a 24 hour American-style eatery located in the Riviera Hotel and Casino. Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, there's a wide array of diner food of the menu including several low-carb versions for those watching their weight. Ask for a table with a view of the pool and enjoy our favorite dishes at Kady's such as the t-bone steak special or the steak and eggs platter.

Open 24 hours, Queen Victoria's pub caters to Las Vegas' appetite for pints, sausage, meat pies, "football," and British punk rock.  Located inside the Riviera Hotel and Casino, Queen Victoria's Pub Las Vegas features large HDTV's, and an extensive menu of Britain's traditional foods, pints, and ciders.

The World's Fare Buffet Las Vegas is a great all you can eat buffet at the Riviera hotel that features five different buffet stations.  Represented in the buffet are Chinese, Italian, Mexican, BBQ and American cultures and foods.  Feast on baked ham, Chinese stir fry, barbeque chicken, and enchiladas all in one shot.  The World's Fare Buffet is a great choice for budget minded travelers who want to eat well without spending a lot of money.
