Sahara Las Vegas Summary
Features: The Sahara Resort is a Las Vegas hotel behemoth from yesteryear. When the Moroccan-themed Sahara opened in 1952, it blended into the desert. In the 1990's -- when scarce breathing room was left on the Strip -- the hotel underwent $100 milion in renovations that kept its charm and ushered the hotel into today's luxurious Strip. In ever-changing Las Vegas, the Sahara is an icon, and the towers that house the hotel's 1,720 rooms are a staple of the North Vegas Strip.
Why We Stay: Once a hot-spot for a glimpse of the Rat Pack crooners, the Sahara Resort now hosts a new breed of humming stars, Nascar drivers. Here are a few of our favorite racing spectacles at the Sahara Resort Hotel:
- The Las Vegas Cyber Speedway: Slightly kitsch, but ridiculously fun, you can virtually race a car down the Strip at 220 miles an hour in this 35,000-square-foot virtual raceway.
- Nascar Cafe: Covered in race memorabilia and grilling up a menu that suits the pickiest of all-American race fans, the Nascar Cafe is cheap eating with flair like no other.
- The 5,000-square-foot Mediterranean Pool: It's not shaped like a race-car, but with frequent guests Kyle and Richard Petty wandering the hotel, we'll wait by one of the best pools on the Strip.
Inside Knowledge: The Sahara Las Vegas Resort is the only hotel on the Strip that we'll recommend using the Monorail to and from. The usually over-expensive, back-alley monorail is worth the long haul from the Sahara at the north end to the MGM Grand at the south.
Do's and Don'ts: While any stay at the Sahara is sure to be fantastic, here are a few tips to make your stay even better:
- Do Play the tables: While the slots go as low as a penny, the Sahara hosts some of the lowest-limit blackjack tables in Las Vegas -- perfect for the vacationer that doesn't want to lose everything.
- Do Hit the Comedy Shop: Opened in 1983, this venue in the Congo Room of the Sahara has hosted great up and coming comedians and has featured Tim Allen, Lewis Black, Drew Carey and many others.
- Don't Wait for drinks: The waitresses trolling the Casino aren't known for their outgoing demeanor. If you want a drink, don't just sit at the slots, give the girls a shout as you're throwing a bill in the machine.
- Don't Cross the Street: This is the North Strip and there isn't much but road between the Sahara and Downtown Vegas. If you want to head over to Circus Circus or the Stratosphere, use the crosswalks.

Sahara Hotel & Casino
Sahara Hotel & CasinoYou get what you pay for - the hotel is dated, the rooms do not even have a coffee maker or alarm clock. If this is the only on-strip hotel in your budget, give a serious look to something off-strip. Due to construction of new hotels along the way, its not exactly walkable to the main strip casinos.

Not the best in Vegas
Not the best in VegasThe room was clean economical, and comfortable. The bathroom could have used a vent/fan to get the steam from the shower out a little faster, The beds were a little small, but there were two and it was clean. The hotel was on the small side so we didn't get lost. If you wanted to go and get your jacket in your room, you didn't have to walk a mile.

The Sahara Hotel
How many hotels can you stay at for 3 nights and have it cost less than $100? It is the greatest place to sleep in Vegas for that "old Vegas" feeling with the price like it was in old Vegas. When I come to Vegas to gamble, drink and sleep as little as possible. Cheap food, cheap gambling, cheap (but strong) drinks, cheap fun! The rooms are just fine. There are even rooms with balconies...probably the only place on the strip with balconies these days. The rooms are average, but just fine for sleeping. The nascar influence in this hotel is a nice addition but not the primary reason for me to be at the Sahara. If someone is looking for a higher quality experience then move on up the strip! This place is just fine for a Vegas weekend!

Sahara Las Vegas Show Review
Our family has stayed at the Sahara 3 times over the past 3 years. Our most recent stay was 7 nights. The Sahara is an older hotel and casino but we enjoy the classic atmosphere. Some rooms have been updated, but the one we stayed in was still stuck in the 70's. Our room was old but clean- the staff was very friendly and helpful. The pool is large and surrounded by palm trees. As far as the casino goes...it's classic Vegas, Baby! Our 10 year old daughter had a great time. Vegas isn't just for gambling and partying anymore.
The Sahara is the northern most stop for the monorail which is the best mode of transport to get to the other casinos, shops, hotels on the strip. The monorail travels from the Sahara to the MGM Grand with about 6 stops along the way.
We stayed in the Alexandria Tower. If you stay in this tower, ask for a room with a balcony on the west side. It will overlook the pool and part way down the strip.

Re: Sahara Las Vegas
Here for a 3 day convention. Was in the Tangier (newer) Tower. Nice and clean and everything worked, no frills, but what do you expect for the ridiculously low price they charge?!* The room did not have a coffee pot so I would bring one with me next trip otherwise you end up ordering room service coffee that cost me an arm and a leg.
This is a very well run property and you can't beat the monorail access to the convention center and the rest of the strip. Forget renting a car...you don't need one staying here at the Sahara.
The hotel staff here were hard workers and always willing to accommodate and special requests that I needed- directions, reservations etc.
