Wynn's Las Vegas Casino Resort Construction to Opening
Wynn bought and imploded the Desert Inn hotel and casino for land to build his greatest casino yet. Wynn has stated that the major shift with this new resort is the concept of designing from the "inside out." In contrast to his previous hotels Bellagio, The Mirage, and Treasure Island, there is no Las Vegas Strip attraction to draw in passers-by. Instead, visitors must venture inside to see what the hotel is all about. Wynn has said that "there is no franchise in a casual observer, there is a franchise in a guest."

Looking eastward down Spring Mountain Road. Wynn Las Vegas construction is seen in center. Treasure Island is on the right (southwest side). The Fashion Show Mall is in the left forground. The Frontier Casino is on the left (northwest side) of the photo, with Turnberry Towers, the Desert Inn & Hilton in the background. The diagonal shaped, flying-saucer-like, metal, multi-media cloud is seen near the photo's center.

June photo of the Wynn Las Vegas Resort, now being built near the junction of Las Vegas Boulevard and Spring Mountain / Sands Road; slated to open in Spring 2005. The old Desert Inn tower (now the Wynn art museum) can be seen at the left edge.

January 2004 photo of the Wynn Las Vegas Resort from Fashion Show Plaza.

Looking northward. Yellow dot marks the location of the new Wynn Hotel-Casino. Las Vegas Boulevard is seen diagonally at left. Paradise Road is on the right side. The large green square is the old Desert Inn Golf Course. The Stratosphere Tower is near the junction of The Strip and Paradise road (mid-top). The tan colored, triangular patch of vacant desert land (at Las Vegas Boulevard and Sahara) is the original location of the first Las Vegas Strip 'hotel-casino complex ' (the El Rancho 1941-60); at the juction of the earlier named Arrowhead/LA Highway & San Francisco Street. Downtown is at upper-right.

View from the west shows the entire Wynn property; bound by the curving Desert Inn Expressway (left) and Spring Mountain / Sands Road (right), The Strip (diagonally at bottom) and Paradise Avenue (at top). The Fashion Show Mall and The Frontier Casino are at bottom, with the old Desert Inn buildings across the street. Treasure Island and Venetian are at right. The large green area is the old DI Golf Course. The Wynn Las Vegas Hotel-Casino is now being built at the corner of the LV Strip & Spring Mountain / Sands Road.

"The single most important piece of real estate in the Western United States" (Steve Wynn). Picture (looking southward) shows the the immensity of the old Desert Inn Golf Course (now part of the Wynn property). Paradise Road is the curving boundary street on the left and the Strip is the diagonal boundary on the right. The sure odds are that Wynn Las Vegas will succeed greatly due to its close proximity to the Convention Center and the new Fashion Show Mall across the street, as well as its ability to expand thru the future. The pedestrian gravitation towards the new Wynn property will cause the old mid-Strip to become the heart of 2005 Las Vegas. Located halfway between Mandalay Bay and the Stratosphere, the resort will fill in the important gap of the Strip that has been missing for some time now. Within just two more years, a manmade cloud will float in front of Fashion Show Mall, a mountain range will be built in the desert, a City by the Bay may be blooming, and Wynn Las Vegas will be opening. This area that started as the 1946 Last Frontier and the 1950 Desert Inn will be brought back-to-life and will become the new center of the future Las Vegas Strip. Steve Wynn's strategically comprehensive plans are now begining to show how well thought out this project actually is. This will be the first Las Vegas casino to use an elaborate outdoor environmental theme.
