Situated in miles of majestic canyons, colorful rock formations and pristine waters, the beauty of the terrain and the grandeur of this concrete structure is more then enough reason to leave Las Vegas for an afternoon adventure.
- The History: Those history buffs out there will be fascinated to learn about the political and economic decisions that went in to the making of the Hoover Dam in the 1930's.
- Be in Two Places at Once: The Hoover Dam is situated on border of Nevada and Arizona, giving tourists the opportunity to literally straddle the stateline. Don't miss Hoover Dam's large clocks letting you know the two time zones you're in.

Do's and Don'ts:
- Do Leave Early: The traffic can get backed up pretty bad close to the Hoover Dam when the highway becomes one lane each way. Beat the traffic by leaving Las Vegas a little early. Around 9am the roads will be smooth sailing.
- Don't Go During Peak Summer Season: The summer temperatures in the Mojave desert can reach 115 degrees easily and with all that concrete absorbing the heat, the surface of the Hoover Dam could pratically melt your sneakers. We recommend saving this tourist attraction for a Vegas trip during the spring or fall.
