Flamingo Las Vegas Summary
Features: The Flamingo Las Vegas Hotel sprung its pink feathers out of the desert in 1946 and today it's a legend on the famous four corners of Las Vegas Boulevard. The 28-floor Flamingo Resort Hotel has more than 3,500 remodeled rooms ranging from simple to luxurious and the casino floor is great for simple and classic gaming. With a ton of top Vegas shows and restaurants, and a 15-acre Caribbean-style playground of tropical pools, water-slides and wildlife gardens, the Flamingo Casino and Hotel Las Vegas is a paradise on the Strip.
Why We Stay: The Flamingo wasn't made famous by Hunter S. Thompson's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, but the book certainly attracted it's share of weird since it was released. There's a family aspect to the Flamingo Resort, but the quirky, classic and booze-filled is what pulls us in:
- Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville: The crooner is more lighthearted than Thompson, but he knows how to party. This is a great spot for a day drink, and the patio on the Strip is the best people-watching in Vegas.
- Bugsy Siegel: The famous mobster that pushed at the forefront of Vegas development was key in sprouting the Flamingo. While all evidence of the mob has been ruffled off the hotel, it's still a little exciting to imagine from the casino floor.
- The View: Take it from Thompson and see the American Dream: "Look West, and with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high-water mark -- that place where the wave finally broke and rolled back." You can also see the best of the Vegas Strip.
Inside Knowledge: In the Flamingo Las Vegas Hotel Wedding Chapel's central garden has a plaque that highlights some of the city's more colorful history. It also describes the events which led to the well-publicized death of mobster and Flamingo founder Bugsy Siegel.
Do's and Don'ts: Here are a few recommendations to make your visit to the Flamingo Hotel and Casino a little easier:
- Do Visit the Spa: Indulge yourself in the Eucalyptus steam room or a Sugar Glow treatment. Don't go in after drinking (or hungover), cause you'll only end up sick. Hit the spa before Margaritaville.
- Do Find the Lagoon Pool: A swim in grotto behind the triple waterfall is great for a poolside rendezvous. There are also a 150-foot slide that drops in three terraced pools.
- Don't Settle for an older room: While nearly every room has been remodeled, some may yet to get the rounds and smell like smoke and years of booze -- they'll switch your room if you ask. Check EarlyVegas for hotel deals and coupons.
- Don't Try to take home a flamingo: You would be surprised how often this happens. They live at the hotel, and would make terrible pets -- plus you'll never get off the hotel grounds. There are plenty of other things to do in Vegas.

Flamingo - Great location, solid price, good service
If you've ever taken a stroll down the Las Vegas Strip, odds are you've walked by the Flamingo, one of the most centrally-located (and let's face it, dated) hotels on the Strip.
The Flamingo is perhaps the most inviting hotel on the Strip - literally. Their front entrance is big and always wide open, so you can peek right into the casino floor and see what's going on. And their Blackjack tables are just steps from the sidewalk, so all it takes is a little impulse to move from the streets of Vegas to the Flamingo tables in a matter of moments.
I had walked through the Flamingo numerous times before I decided to see what the rest of the hotel was all about. I was able to get a room at the Flamingo for less than $40 mid-week. Plus, like the rest of Caesars properties in Las Vegas, the Flamingo doesn't charge resort fees, so there weren't any extras tacked on upon my arrival. Point, Flamingo! (However, they would lose said point for charging $13 for Internet/24 hours. Which I obviously didn't pay.)
Each of the two employees I chatted with at the front desk couldn't have been nicer. When I showed up three hours before check-in, the first women was extremely apologetic that I couldn't check in early without a fee. I told her what my only real prerogative was - ditching my extremely bulky duffel bag at the bell desk - which she courteously directed me to. Later, when I checked in for a second time, I was told my room wasn't ready but that they could set me up in a different of my choosing. As it turns out, I had just heard that my buddy would be in town that night, so I was able to change to room with two beds free of charge - and on the 27th floor no less. Anyways, short story long, the service was excellent at the Flamingo.
Rooms at the Flamingo are actually quite spacious, though the mink pink blankets on the bed are a touch kitschy (yet equally fun to touch). There are two sizable bars on the casino floor to play video poker at, plus the Flamingo Habitat out back is a great place to enjoy a coffee and nurse a hangover. (Not that I did that.) Also, go ahead and skip the Sin City Brewing Co., which was overpriced and anything but amazing. And lastly, be prepared for one of the more claustrophobic elevator rides of your life. The semi-confusing elevator area by the bell desk is probably the biggest knock I have against the Flamingo, but they move fast enough that you're not waiting too long between rides. Plus, you definitely end up making odd smalltalk with all kinds of different people so, it really wasn't much of an issue.
Overall, I would give the Flamingo a solid A- ... It didn't blow me away but for the price, service and location is was absolutely worth the visit.

Flamingo Las Vegas - sign up for Total Rewards
If you stay at the Flamingo be sure to sign up for Harrah’s Total Rewards. Even if you aren’t a big baller you can get comps at Ballys, Harrahs, Caesars Palace, Planet Hollywood, Paris. It only takes a few minutes and the card can be used in other cities, Atlantic, New Orleans, etc. I have had several stays completely free and they treat you like a king with food, service, etc. I mean if you are going to lose you might as well get something out of it.

Average, awesome pool!
My 4-night stay at the Flamingo was a satisfactory experience. I have never visited Las Vegas before and I was looking forward to having a decent trip. The pool did not disappoint me, there was beautiful landscaping, lots of private, lagoon-like areas, and YES, a water slide. On the weekend, you really have to get out there by no later than 7:30 or 8. The little pool-side bar was awesome and the drinks were tasty. The furniture in my room was a little run-down, but the room itself was very clean. Many rooms even have a direct view of the Bellagio's water fountains. The hotel lobby was crowded and loud, thats to be expected in Vegas I guess. Not too bad.

Good Location, decent price
Arrived at the Flamingo at 2pm. Our rooms were not ready but we were aware that check-in was not until 4pm. We stayed in a deluxe room. Our room overlooked the Gardens, a plus for sure! The pool was definitely a plus - that's one of the main reasons along with the great location why we opted for the Flamingo. There are 2 pools - 1 of which is European Style (topless bathing permitted). This pool costs $10 for men and free for women - worth paying for as it had nicer loungers & ambiance. Service was ok...friendly staff, good check in, check out.

Beautiful pool
At check in, we asked for one of the newly remodeled rooms and were given one at no charge. It was a beautiful, large room overlooking the pool. The pool area was beautiful! It felt like being in a tropical resort with waterfalls and palm trees. Great location right in the middle of the strip.

Flamingo Las Vegas - Not bad, not great
Not bad, not greatThe Flamingo is a nice hotel and the service is really good too, the only thing we really found wrong was they just need to do some updates to the rooms, the restaurants were good, the location is really good too, they just need to get up to date with their decor and room furnishings.
