We've all been there; missing flights is an extremely easy thing to do, unfortunately. (Seriously - you've seen Home Alone, right?) While many of us miss a flight because we overslept, looked at the wrong time, packed all the wrong things that got us on the TSA's $@#^ list, it's even easier to miss a flight when you're headed home from Vegas. We've all made these classic mistakes at one point or another. (So. Many. Distractions.)
Here are a few ways in which Vegas visitors can end up stranded in Sin City for a few hours longer than anticipated...
Playing One More HandOne of the easiest ways to pass your time in Vegas is in the casinos. You have no idea what time it is and you want desperately to at least break even, if not win a little, and definitely don't want your wife to see how much you lost. That would not be pretty. But the worst way to act in Vegas is desperately, so have a little self control and spend your last few hours sight seeing, people watching or doing something else that isn't going to keep drawing you in for more, hoping for a new result.
Ordering One More DrinkOften times, this is just as bad as the gambling. Sitting at a bar in a hotel or at the airport is an easy way to pass the time, whether you're chatting it up with your fellow travelers, watching a game or doing God knows what else people do in bars... It's surely not a difficult feat to miss your flight from Vegas over a few measly drinks. For those people we say, "Drink on the plane!"
Not Getting To The Vegas Airport Early EnoughIn case you didn't notice, there are a lot of people that come to Vegas on any given day. Most of them come and leave at the same time, or at least on the same days (Sunday morning is the busiest time), and the lines at the airport are long. If you wait until the last minute to return your rental car before getting to the airport because you think you have a little time to spare, spare us all and just don't.
Partying Hard Tends to Result in OversleepingBut you already knew that, didn't know? Yes, we all already knew that, yet some of us just never learn! It's your last night in Vegas, of course you want one last hoorah to take home with you, and we are not telling you to deny that urge by any means, but definitely take it into account when you've got a flight home the next day.
You Forgot to PackUp until now, housekeeping has been the only one not getting paid nearly enough to pick up all your dirty underwear, but you're the one that's going to be paying the ultimate price when you can't find half the clothes you came with and have to go through every drawer, room and cabinet to find your watch. If you pack everything the night before, you get to have a fun scavenger hunt instead of one full of raging chaos.
You Have to Find Out Whose Wearing the Matching Wedding RingWell, people really don't end up getting married and not remembering who to in Vegas as often as it's joked about, but you should definitely miss your flight and get that taken care of if you did. Especially if you came to Vegas for a bachelor party weekend. That could end poorly, to say the least.
Left Your Wallet at the Strip ClubThis actually does happen. Not just at the Strip Club of course, but make sure when you leave anywhere (a bar, your hotel, the ATM) you have your credit card and all your other personal belongings that you'll probably need on the way home.
You're in JailPretty much a myth, people rarely end up in jail after a night in Vegas, but this could definitely be a setback in your journey back home. Come on, brother! If you're going to get arrested any night, make sure it's the first night so you have plenty of time to do your time or get someone to bail you out.
No Wifi = Can't Check in OnlineWe get that you don't want to pay $20 a night just so you can check into your flight, so do it on your phone. Many airlines have apps that allow you to check in, as well as give you updated reminders and the current status of your flight.
So after your weekend in Vegas, when it's just time to get home and pass the f@$% out go to work tomorrow, you don't want to get stranded in Sin City for longer than you have to. There's probably enough sin on your plate already. Don't miss your flight from Vegas for these reasons or any others!
